What would you think of Black people if you had never met them and all you saw was what was depicted on TV? I've been in that position where people see me in specific settings and ask, "Are you a rapper?" They're usually startled when I tell them what kind of music I create. Although you might be the complete opposite of what is being shown, other people may initially perceive you as such. I believe that the marketing of your people and culture is something you personally fund. Sweat$: The goal of decriminalizing Black men is something I want to support. The younger generation needs someone to look up to.įTC: If you had to summarize your goals in terms of music culture and the impact you want to have on the world, what would it be? We frequently go through the dating cycle. Personally, I believe it is critical that Black people see positive examples of marriage. Your marriage and your foundation at home are typically where a community begins. We've always relied on the community for a large portion of our growth. These, in my opinion, are the things we must fight to preserve since they advance our culture. Sweat$: I believe that marriage and Black love should both be celebrated. The fact that they were dancing to my song made the moment even more special.įTC: What would you like to see more of in relation to Black love? I never saw them dancing together coming up. My parents danced, which was the first time I witnessed that in their marriage. I didn't want to do a wedding at first because I'd never attended one as an adult, but my wife wanted something traditional. All of our friends and family gathered in Atlantic City. I was on tour with Alicia Keys, and we had a couple days off to have our wedding. It has a little more sexy vibes, which I usually avoid, but this time I pushed myself. I found myself staying up later at night, hanging out, going to restaurants at night, going out to clubs in LA, and so on.
